At the end of the regulation around the grounds, the clubs and the general public complain, rightly, that the Normandy Cup has become a competition without interest. For some, it makes it possible not to look for friendly matches, for others, to rotate the workforce, but the sporting stake has become insignificant, except perhaps when we reach the last rounds.

The clubs qualified for the quarter-finals

Herouville (R2)
Villers Houlgate (R1)
US Luneraysienne (R1)
Granville B (R1)
Bayeux (R1)
AG Caen (N3)
Alencon (N3)
Grand-Quevilly (N3)

The league, itself, does not really make an effort to promote and highlight this competition. Telling example: the quarter-finals are scheduled for this weekend of May 27 and 28, 2023, or 24 hours before the draw (which was announced this Tuesday evening), there is no index on the League of this info.

A draw 72 hours before the matches

When me, but it’s a minimum, the qualified clubs received a letter where it is written that « the league has decided to invite the clubs still qualified to attend the draw for the next rounds… » Thank you for them, it’s very nice! The draw (1/4 and 1/2 in stride) will therefore take place on Wednesday. A draw almost on the sly, as a curtain lever for a sector meeting, which calls out because it intervenes less 72 hours before the start of the weekend and that it will cause organizational problems for some clubs.

No question of playing during the week

The moment of conviviality planned for the end of the evening will perhaps make you swallow the pill… but it is time that our governing bodies show a real desire to restore its letters of nobility to this Normandy cup. If we really wanted to save its attraction, why schedule these quarter-finals on the same weekend as an N3 championship day? Vincent Laigneau, the coach of Alençon, a cut. The answer to the priority question of the championship:

There is no question of playing in the middle of the week as the league has sought to impose on us. We will put our A team in the league and we will contest the cup with the available B and C players.

Reserves required to play

The other N3 clubs still qualified, Avant Garde de Caen and Grand Quevilly, who no longer have anything to fear or hope for in the league, may choose to deliver the championship to play the cup to the fullest. In the round of 16, the Avant Garde moved on without substitutes.

On arrival, it’s still a shame to have to choose between cup and championship for a badly designed calendar problem. But article 5 of the regulations stipulates: « the club is required to play its lower team if the first is taken by the national championship ». This is bad news, only the National 3 teams will play in the league next weekend…
